Filing period opens for various candidates

The filing period opens Monday for would-be candidates in East Bay nonpartisan city, school board, special district and other regional races in the upcoming general election.

Numerous city councils, special districts and school and college boards in Contra Costa and Alameda counties will hold elections in conjunction with the presidential and statewide general election on Nov. 4.

Large regional agencies with elections include BART, AC-Transit, East Bay Municipal Utility District and the East Bay Regional Park District.

In Alameda County, the cities of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Dublin, Fremont Pleasanton, Oakland, San Leandro and Union City will select city council members.

Nearly every city, school board and special district in Contra Costa County will hold elections.

The filing period closes Aug. 8.

In Contra Costa County, forms to file for seats on school and special district boards and the city of Martinez are available at the Contra Costa County Elections Office, 555 Escobar Street in Martinez.

Forms for all other city offices are available at the appropriate city clerk's office.
