Buchanan outraises Wilson in Assembly race

The two candidates running for the Assembly District 15 seat not only have a difference in political views but also in their campaign bank accounts.

Democrat Joan Buchanan raised $390,722 from Jan. 1 to June 30, according to campaign disclosure forms. In the latest reporting period, from May 18 to June 30, her campaign raised more than $106,000.

Buchanan also received two $7,200 contributions last week, one from the Solidarity Political Action Committee of the Central Labor Council of Alameda County, and one from the California Political Action Committee of the State Building & Construction Trades Council.

Republican Abram Wilson's campaign raised less than half of Buchanan's total — $180,4377 from Jan. 1 to June 30. He has spent $224,000 on postage, mailers, campaign consultants and information technology, among other things. He raised $32,499 from May 18 to June 30 and spent $82,343 in the same time period.

Neither Wilson nor his campaign manager could be reached for comment Tuesday.

Buchanan's campaign has spent $270,463 so far, on postage, mailers, consultants, travel, campaign staff salaries and office supplies.

Buchanan, a San Ramon Valley school board member from Alamo, and Wilson, the San Ramon mayor, are vying for the Assembly seat that covers Alamo, Brentwood, Danville, Livermore, Oakley, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, a portion of Pleasanton, Sacramento Delta communities, Galt and parts of Stockton and Elk AdvertisementGrove.

After three terms in office, Republican Assemblyman Guy Houston is being termed out. Houston is the only Bay Area Republican serving in Sacramento, and the stakes are high in the battle for this seat.

"I think it's going to be one of the costlier races in the state," Buchanan said.
