Voters can tune in to candidate forums

Televised round-table forums with candidates for 28 Contra Costa County offices will begin airing this week on local public access television channels and are available online today at ContraCostaTimes.com/election.

More than 120 local candidates for school boards, city councils, special districts, mayors, board of supervisors and the state Assembly participated in the 15 hours of roundtables, which were recorded at CCTV's Martinez studios from Oct. 1-3.

Contra Costa Times political reporter and columnist Lisa Vorderbrueggen moderated the forums.

In addition to the Contra Costa Times, sponsors include the League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley, West Contra Costa League of Women Voters, Contra Costa Council, East Bay Community Foundation, Contra Costa TV, Contra Costa County Election Department and Comcast. The Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation of Walnut Creek also provided significant funding.

The newspaper and its partners have produced the televised roundtables for more than a decade as a voter education service.

"These roundtables offer voters an opportunity to judge for themselves how well the candidates understand the issues facing the Bay Area," said Contra Costa Times Editor Kevin Keane. "I think they're an indispensable part of our election coverage."
